An update on Discourse Representation Theory: Reference, attitudes, fiction, and pictures

Hans Kamp and Emar Maier

Week 2, August 10-14, 2020

We survey some of the current developments in the dynamic semantic framework of Discourse Representation Theory (DRT). We cover DRT approaches to several key phenomena in formal semantics/pragmatics, like (in)definites, indexicality, and propositional attitudes. Starting from classic DRT and presupposition resolution, we examine various recent extensions of the framework for dealing with rigidity, the representation of complex mental states, fiction interpretation, and pictorial narratives.
